Pupil Parliament

We had a fabulous day at the Trust central offices as we held our first face to face Pupil Parliament session of the year. The theme was how to be a respectful, active citizen, which is a strand within our Community Engagement learning characteristic.

Our Y5 and Y6 representatives from across the Trust worked on milestone 3 within the ‘respectful, active citizen’ strand and focussed on how to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of ethics and values and how these inform personal behaviour.
  • Contribute positively to the local community.

Pupils shared ideas about how to collaborate through communication as a strength for staff and pupils.

Pupils discussed how to make a positive difference in their communities, including fundraising and volunteering and they held a debate entitled “Only big actions can make big differences” where the majority of the room decided that they disagreed with this statement and thought that small actions can have a big impact too.

They discussed lots of examples of this and focussed largely on positive impact and changes. However, they also discussed the idea of negative actions having far reaching consequences too, so it was very thought provoking and led to challenging conversations.
